Accounts are a feature introduced within TinyTanks back in late 2012, and carried over to the original Flash-based Bonk.io on June 8th, 2016, having been present within all subsequent versions of Bonk.io and the HTML5-based Bonk.io as well as its development since then.
- This means the oldest accounts were created on TinyTanks. There is estimated to be over 1.5 million accounts created before the official release of bonk.io
Having an account offers various benefits compared to being a Guest that varies between versions of Bonk.io. This includes but not limited to:
- Gaining levels generally through winning matches against other players.
- Being able to create maps that others can play.
- To be able to vote or favorite maps.
- To be able to save skins once logged out.
- Being able to save friends to your Friends List.
- Avoiding confusion with being mixed up with other players.
Account Creation & Security[]
When creating an account, it is important to note that there are current restrictions in place for account names. These include:
- A limit of 15 characters within a username.
- For all characters to be letters, numbers, spaces, or underscores.
- Cannot start with a space or underscore
- Cannot contain "Chaz": the game's developer.
- Vulgar language was not allowed in the original Flash-based Bonk.io, but no longer has restriction in the HTML5-based Bonk.io (This may be a bug or oversight, as Flash-based Bonk's restriction existed at the same time that there was no restriction in HTML5-based Bonk)
- Cannot contain more than one space in a row (Note that this is a much more recently added limit)
For passwords, there are no restrictions, aside from there has to be one within versions of the HTML5-based Bonk.io and its development. Remember to avoid making short passwords or is related to your username. Also, abstain from giving your password to others.
Also, be cautious using any clients, aside from those that are widely adopted and safely looked after, such as the Bonk Leagues Client, as they can potentially contain malware.
By doing these things, it makes it more difficult for others take over one's account or spread malware onto your system. With compromised accounts, they can become publicly leaked, where all of the community can have access to the account details.
You can now change your password since the update from the 7th Jan 2022.
