DEATH is a famous map by emil900 which was featured in Chaz's Picks. It is the fourth most upvoted map published within the Flash-based Bonk.io.* It is commonly used as a map within tournaments, as a result of its skill-oriented gameplay - oftentimes it is referred to as a 'skill map'.
*The map was for a few years stuck as the third most upvoted map before being surpassed by Classic by Chaz in December 2020. Due to Classic by Chaz also having more downvotes, DEATH remained #3 on the Top Rated listing on the Flash-based Bonk.io, due to it being a (Like - Dislike) system. Within the new HTML5-based Bonk.io, it only counts the amount of upvotes a map has, while disregarding downvotes entirely for maps within the Flash-based sections.
Initial Success[]
The map was first created sometime between August 2016 and September 2016, and was added into Chaz's Picks shortly after. As a result, the map quickly sky-rocketed in terms of popularity, and reached a total of 16k upvotes a month after it's release. By this time, the map was the third highest rated on Bonk.io, where it stands today, though it likely moved around when the map Meridian, which was above it, fell in position, and battle for the swing later climbed up to the top following its release.
Following its success, emil900 turned his focus towards making maps likewise to DEATH, making maps such as bridge death and DEATH VERSION 2 with moderate success, then later quit map-making altogether.
Around this time, the creator also attempted at least 2 times to change the colour theme of the map, likely trying to attract attention surrounding its changes, as seen in the images below. Lastly, the map was deleted for a short time, around New Year's Day in 2017, information about this is listed here.
Long-Term Growth and Following[]
Over the months and years following its release, the map continued to gradually climb in popularity to where it is today. Over this time span, a community grew surrounding the map, similar to Gang Grounds 2.0 in the present, and the map still has a significant following to this day.
Gameplay & Premise[]
The map features five tan-coloured platforms that are laid out over the map in a "X" formation. They can be rebounded off and can be used to gain height. Surrounding this, are a total of 24 deadly black circles that are aligned on the borders of the map.
The premise of the map is to knock others towards the sides of the map, so that they are killed by the deadly circles or fall off the screen.
