Levels are a feature that were added within the Flash-based Bonk.io on June 8th, 2016, along with Accounts, where it applies to. They were also added at the start of the HTML5-based Bonk.io's Alpha, called Bonk 2 Alpha in June 2019. However, the ability to gain levels in this version was only added in February 2020.

The level of an Account is calculated as followed:

  • The amount of total XP a player has based on their Account level can calculated by the equation: f(x)=(100(x-1)^2)
  • The amount of XP a player needs to level up based on their Account level can be calculated by the equation: f(x) = 100(2x - 1)

For example, going from Account level 1 to 100 requires a total of 980,100 XP, with the level up from level 99 to 100 requiring 19,700 XP. Going from level 1 to 200 requires a total of 3,960,100 XP.

Uses Within the Flash-based Bonk.io[]

Through gaining levels, there were minor features that became available once the account that a player was playing on passes a certain leveled within the Flash-based Bonk.io. This included unlocking the option to set a custom room name after passing leveled 20, and to gained extra skin slots every 5 levels from leveled 10 to leveled 45.  However, these features had been changed in Bonk 2 Beta, during the HTML5-based Bonk.io's development, so all players regardless of having an account or being a Guest, could use them without limitations.

Public Accounts, XP Farming/Scripting, and Chaz's Response []

*Note that this isn't referring towards more minor forms of XP advancement methods, such as lowered round counts within the Flash-based Bonk.io Custom Rooms and game-mode manipulations, which are generally more accepted within the Community.

Likewise to most games, levels can be illegitimately gained through various methods, such as "XP Farm Maps" where players can automatically win without requiring any effort in-game. Methods such as these are frowned upon within the community, and are strongly discouraged.

As a result of community opinion on the matter, on April 29th, 2020, Chaz took action against this through resetting hundreds of Public/XP Scripted Accounts' XP to 0. Along with this, he also changed the Max XP system, from allowing players to gain up to 2500 XP every 20 minutes, to a max of 12,000 XP per day. This number changed again in 2023, raising the 20 minute limit to 3500 and the daily limit to 18,000.

Bonk.io Projects[]

As a result of levels and XP existing within versions of Bonk.io, some community projects sprang up to keep track of the XP of different accounts within the game. This included Bonk Leagues' Player XP Checker, along with the player-run Level 100+ Player Leaderboard. However, this was put to an end when Chaz decided that the HTML5-based Bonk.io would no longer have Player API, making tracking levels more difficult. Since then, a handful of attempts by players were made to gather tallies of player levels in-game verification and Bonk Community Discord bots. One of these is being updated by Wizardlypig, and is featured on the Level Leaderboard article. Another project, updated by IAmNotHacking is bonkonauts, this includes xp/level calculators, as well as an exact quantity of xp for your current account and both a flash and html5 lists of friends.
