This page is not to be confused with Skin Designs, a page pertaining to a collection of skins created by the player base, that are publicly available to use.
Skins were a feature within the original, Flash based Bonk.io, and have been carried over to the current HTML5 recreation of Bonk.io, being present with varying levels of support during Bonk 2 Alpha and Bonk 2 Beta, when it was being developed.
Accessible through all versions (aside from Bonk 2 Alpha) through the Main Menu, it allows players to customize their avatars.
Skin Manager[]
Upon clicking on it within the main menu, players are taken to the Skin Manager, where there are five skin slots for players to use, and the ability to set one of them as active. This can be done by clicking on one of the skin's thumbnails, then by clicking the "Set Active" button below. To directly edit a skin, click on its thumbnail within the Skin Manager, then press the "Edit" button below.
Current Skin Editor[]
After clicking on the "Edit" button, players will be brought to the Skin Editor, where they can modify their skins. It is divided into three different sections, Layers, Preview, and Layer Properties.
Layers[]
Within the layers, there is a layer list of a total of sixteen shape layers, along with a base colour button directly below it. If a layer in the layer list is clicked, it can be edited through the Layer Properties. When the base colour button is pressed, players can select a colour for it directly in the same spot.
Preview[]
The preview section features a large picture of how the skin looks, along with an option to see how it would appear in FFA and various teams. It also features a "Cancel" button to either cancel edits made in the Skin Editor, leaving it without making changes, and a "Save" button, to save changes to a skin.
Layer Properties[]
Layer properties features all of the customisation for each layer. The following is a list of each feature within it, along with an explanation about it.
- Shape - Allows for players to select the basic shape of a layer, between 115 options.
- X/Y* - Allows for players to move their player either horizontally X or vertically Y, through entering any numerical value into the box. This is by default, set to 0.
*Players are also able to drag shapes on a skin by dragging them physically in the Skin Preview after selecting them in the current version of the game.
- Angle - Allows for players to turn a shape around its centre, with 360° equalling one full rotating, by entering any numerical value into its box. This is by default, set to 0.
- Scale - Allows for players to enlarge or shrink a layer's shape, by entering any numerical value into the box. This is by default, set to 0.25.
- Flip L/D or U/D - Allows for players to transform a shape over its axis, by setting the value to "Yes". For L/D, it flips it over the Y axis of the centre of the shape. For U/D, it flips it over the X axis of the centre of the shape.
- Colour - Within current versions of Bonk 2, players can set the background and layers of their skin to any colour through a colour spectrum container along with a saturation slider, being a feature identical to the colour picker within the current Editor.
- Move/Delete Layer - Allows for players to move a certain layer up or down, or to empty it. It is a set of three buttons, named "Move Layer Up", "Move Layer Down", and "Delete Layer".
Skin Editor Differences from the Former Flash-based Bonk.io[]
This is a list of all of the notable differences between the original Bonk.io's Skin Editor, and Bonk 2's.
- Max Layers - Within the original Bonk.io, players at first can only access a total of eight skin layers to edit. They can gain more layers, every five levels after Level 10, until it caps out at sixteen layers upon reaching Level 45. Meanwhile, in Bonk 2, every player can use all sixteen layers.
- Shape/Colour Picker - After clicking the shape or colour option within the Layer Properties, a separate section would near-full screen pop up in front of the main skin editor, allowing players to select that shape/colour. In Bonk 2, this has been replaced with a smaller box appearing after a player clicks one of those options.
- Colour Options - Within the original Bonk.io, it only offered players to choose between a pallet of 142 colours for layers as well as the background. These colours include sixteen primary hues, with eight versions of each, based on a tint of that hue. Along with a white to black bar below, of eleven shades, and lastly three extra colours to the right of that, being a teal, blue, and red. In Bonk 2, this has been expanded to allow players to sent their layers and background to any colour they want.
- Cancel/Save - The Cancel/Save feature is its own unique section within the Skin Editor. In the current version, it has been merged with the Preview section.
- Move/Delete Layer - These are small icons of an up and down arrow, along with a trash can, next to every layer listed within the Layer Section. In the current version, this has been replaced with brown buttons at the bottom of the Layer Properties Section of the shape that has been selected within the Layers Section.
- Preview Team Selection - There is a selection between FFA, Red Team, and Blue Team below the image of the skin being created, with all three being visible through a "check-the-box" menu. In the current version, this has been replaced with a scroll down menu, along with the additions of previewing in Yellow and Green Teams.
- Highlighting Layers - When a player hovers over a layer listed in the Layer Section of the Skin Editor, the layer on the Skin Preview turns to white, so a player can figure out which layer is which. In the current version, this colour has been changed to a bright magenta.
- Dragging Layers - In the original Bonk.io, players were only able to move layers using the X/Y coordinates, but in the current Bonk.io, this can also be done by dragging the layer on the skin preview after selecting it.
Trivia[]
- Guests can also create skins, but it will be reset after they exit the game.
- The Skin feature was first added to the original Bonk.io on June 22, 2016, at first with only a single skin slot. This was later changed on March 23, 2018 with the addition of five total skin slots.
